If conservation matters to you, then zoos matter to!
Zoological Parks are professionally managed businesses that not only care for threatened & endangered species that you can observe without traveling around the world, they also support the conservation projects where they matter most! These in-situ conservation initiatives would not be possible without the funding they receive from zoos all over the world.

ZooWorld is happy to be supporting the Namibian Brown Hyena Project, lead by research scientist Marie Lemerle. Using camera traps and radio collars Marie is able to identify individual members of two unique beach living hyena clans and to monitor their movement and behaviors. Marie's work in collecting this data is essential and time sensitive as they are faced with quickly encroaching human development. The Baker's Bay seal colony supports the never before observed relationship of these clans, one being diurnal, hunting during the day and a nocturnal clan that hunts the same area at night. It is hypothesized that this very different situation occurs because of the high concentration of food made available by the seal colony.
We love citizen science! Supporting the conservation initiatives of private and passionate people is the heart of ZooWorld. So partnering with PC at Khoisan Karoo was a no brainer... BONUS he is helping us on our mission to analyze the nutrition intake of wild aardwolves! PC needed camera traps to help with surveys on nocturnal animals and we needed someone to help us collect aardwolf scat (yep...poop) to analyze. Together, we are learning more about secretive nocturnal wild species!
Pollinators are important!
Did you know that lemurs are pollinators? In additional to being a home to some of these awesome & endangered pollinators, ZooWorld actively works to support local pollinators as well. You may have noticed all of the extra garden spaces popping up around the zoo, these are designated pollinator friendly areas that offer a bit of relief to city-worn bees, butterflies and hummingbirds.
We are also proud supporters of our local bee keepers and even had our own on-site apiary for a few years. If you love honey bees (and honey) the way we do, Check out Tupelo Bee Keepers Asscoiation for a list of local honey providers (pollination conservation warriors).
Have you ever wondered how many box turtles live in your back yard or how far does a box turtle wander in their life time? So did research scientist Adam Kaeser! ZooWorld is a proud supporter of Adam and his Bay County box turtle survey, which allows local citizen scientists to identify individuals and record their sightings, providing necessary data to understand the lifetime and movements of these awesome animals!
Is a 501(c)3 not for profit that is dedicated to supporting wildlife, wild spaces and the wild people that work diligently to save species. If you would like to help us help them feel free to make a donation.
